Community Speech and Language Therapy Service

Young boy receiving speech and language therapy The Community Speech and Language Therapy Service helps pre-school and school-age children with speech, language and communication difficulties.

We do this by working with parents, carers, teachers and early years workers to develop speech, language and communication skills.

Health professionals, education and early years staff, parents and carers can all refer a child to the Community Speech and Language Therapy Service.

All referrals need consent from the child’s parent or carer and should be made to the Central Referral Service, which is operated by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

You can contact the Central Referral Service by calling 084 5606 6596.

It is open at the following times:
  • Monday to Thursday - 8.30am to 5pm
  • Friday - 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Referrals for adults

We also help adults with similar difficulties, as well as those who have problems eating, drinking or swallowing.

Referrals for treatment can be made by a patient or by their family, carer, doctor or healthcare professional.

Ideally, the patient’s consent should be obtained.

All referrals should be made to the Central Referral Service. You can contact them on 084 5606 6596.
