Health visitors

Health visitors are qualified nurses with specialist training in community and children’s health.

They work with individuals, families and groups and visit all parents with children under four to promote wellbeing and prevent and detect ill health.

They also hold records for children up to the age of 18 if there are ongoing concerns or problems.

A health visitor is available in the health centre on Wednesdays from 2pm to 3.30pm.

It is a drop-in service and no appointment is required. For more information, call us on 028 9063 6800.

Health visitors can also help with:
  • diabetes
  • antenatal health
  • post-natal health (including post-natal depression)
  • family planning
  • sexual health
  • parenting
  • feeding and nutrition
  • immunisations
  • hearing, vision and speech
  • behavioural and sleeping problems
  • play
  • accident prevention and child safety
  • child protection
  • prescriptions for some medicines
  • infant massage

Making an appointment

Health visitors are attached to doctor's surgeries.

If your child is aged four or under, you can get a health visitor by contacting your doctor or gaining a referral from another healthcare professional.
