Frequently asked questions

I have recently begun breastfeeding but my baby won`t latch on properly. What am I doing wrong?

Breastfeeding gives your baby the best possible start in life.

If you are having problems getting started, follow these simple steps:
  • turn your baby towards your tummy and position their nose opposite your nipple
  • allow your baby`s head to tilt back
  • move their mouth gently across your nipple until their mouth opens really wide
  • bring your baby towards your breast quickly so their bottom lip and chin touch your skin
  • your baby should be able to breathe easily while feeding.
If you continue to have problems breastfeeding, ask your midwife to observe you and provide help if needed.
